Cuidados después de un Cateterización Cardíaca/ Angiografía Arterial
Arteria Femoral o Aparato de Cierre de la Arteria Femoral

Irse a Casa

• Haga que alguien le lleve en automóvil a casa. No debe manejar hoy.
• Descanse tranquilamente por el resto del día.

Cuidado de la incisión

• Se puede duchar después de 24 horas. Quite el vendaje que se encuentra sobre la incisión antes de ducharse.
• Durante los próximos 3 días:
  • Limpie cuidadosamente el área usando jabón y agua mientras esté en la ducha. Séquela totalmente. No se frote el área.
  • Puede ponerse ungüento antibacterial (p. ej., Neosporin®). No use lociones ni polvos sobre el área.
  • Cubra el área con una curita (Band-Aid®) o vendaje. Asegúrese de cubrir el área completa. Una curita cuadrada y adhesiva le vendrá bien.
  • Mantenga el área limpia y seca para prevenir infección. Si se moja la curita o el vendaje, quítelo y reemplácelo con uno nuevo.
  • Inspeccione el área diariamente para comprobar si tiene enrojecimiento, inflamación, o drenaje (supuración).

Actividades

• No levante más de 10 libras de peso por 1 semana o hasta que la herida haya cicatrizado.
• No realice actividades vigorosas o que requieran mucho esfuerzo por una semana.
• No se siente en la tina, jacuzzi, ni vaya a la piscina por 5 días o hasta que el área haya cicatrizado completamente.

Qué esperar

• Área adolorida o sensitiva que puede durar una semana
• Supuración leve en el área de la incisión
• Moretón en el área que puede durar de 2 a 3 semanas en desaparecer
• Un pequeño bulto (del tamaño de una moneda de 10 centavos a una de 25) que puede durar hasta 6 semanas

Qué hacer si tiene dolor leve

• Puede tomar Tylenol® pastillas de 325mg cada 4 a 6 horas.

Signos y Síntomas de Infección

• Enrojecimiento, inflamación, o drenaje en el área
• Dolor prolongado
• Fiebre superior a 100.4° F en dos lecturas consecutivas, con 4 horas de diferencia

Cuándo debe llamar:

 

Llame al 911 si necesita ayuda de emergencia si tiene:

• Sangrado o inflamación repentina en el área. Aplique presión directa. Si el sangrado no se detiene después de aplicar presión constante por 10 minutos sobre el área, llame para recibir ayuda. Siga aplicando presión hasta que reciba ayuda.
• Si la pierna se le adormece, se vuelve fría, o se pone azulada.

Llame a su doctor enseguida si nota:

• Cualquier signo de infección.
• Dolor severo.

A.  Medicinas

Continúe tomando sus medicamentos actuales como se le recetaron. Informe al doctor si tiene algún efecto secundario. No deje de tomar un medicamento sin hablar antes con su doctor.

 

Si le colocaron un stent, debe tomar Plavix® (Clopidogrel®) siguiendo el horario indicado. Antes de marcharse a casa, asegúrese de tener una receta para Plavix®. Si no puede pagar este medicamento, informe a su enfermera o farmacéutico.

Caring for Yourself after Cardiac Catheterization/Arterial Angiography
Femoral Artery or Femoral Artery Closure Device
 

Your cardiac catheterization on __________________________ was through the

 

RIGHT   /   LEFT  femoral artery.

Going Home

• Have someone drive you home.  You should not drive at all today.
• Rest quietly for the remainder of the day.

Care of the Incision

• You may shower after 24 hours.  Remove the bandage over the incision before showering.
• For the next 3 days:
  • Gently clean the site using soap and water while in the shower.  Dry thoroughly.  Do not rub the site.
  • You may apply an antibacterial ointment (i.e. Neosporin®).  Do not use lotions or powders in the area.
  • Cover the site with a Band-Aid® or dressing.  Make sure to cover the entire area.  A square adhesive Band-Aid® works well.
  • Keep the site clean and dry to prevent infection.  If the Band-Aid or dressing becomes wet, remove it and replace it with a new one.
  • Inspect the site daily for redness, swelling, or drainage.

Activities

• Do not lift more than 10 pounds for 1 week or until the wound has healed.
• No vigorous activity or straining for one week.
• Do not sit in a bathtub, hot tub, or go into a swimming pool for 5 days or until the site is completely healed.

What to Expect

• Soreness or tenderness at the site that may last one week
• Mild oozing from the incision site
• Bruising at the site that may take 2-3 weeks to go away
• A small lump (dime to quarter size) which may last up to 6 weeks

What to Do for Minor Pain

• You may take Tylenol® 325mg tablets every 4-6 hours.

Signs and Symptoms of Infection

• Redness, swelling or drainage at the site
• Prolonged pain
• Fever over 100.4° F for two consecutive readings, 4 hours apart

When to Call for Help

 

Call 911 for emergency help if:

• Bleeding or sudden swelling should occur at the site.  Apply direct pressure.  If the bleeding does not stop after 10 minutes of placing constant pressure on the site, call for help.  Keep pressing until you get help.
• If your leg becomes numb, cold, or turns blue.

Call your doctor right away if you notice:

• Any signs of infection.
• Severe pain.

A.  Medicines

Continue to take your present medicines as prescribed.  Tell your doctor of any side effects.  Do not stop taking a medicine without talking to your doctor.

 

If you had a stent placed, you must take Plavix® (Clopidogrel®) for a prescribed time.  Before you go home, make sure you have a prescription for Plavix®.  If you are not able to pay for this medicine, tell your nurse or pharmacist.
