¿Qué es un "LEEP"?
Este tratamiento es usado para tratar células anormales en el cuello uterino. El LEEP usa energía eléctrica para extraer estas células. Se utiliza un asa de alambre para cortar este tejido. En la mayoría de los casos, el LEEP diagnostica y trata el problema. No se produce mucho sangrado durante el tratamiento.
¿Qué puedo esperar?
- Usted podría tener molestias durante unos días. Puede tomar Ibuprofeno 600 mg (3 pastillas) cada 6 horas si lo necesita.
- Podría tener descarga vaginal durante un máximo de 4 semanas. Debería ser como un período ligero. Cambiará poco a poco de una mucosa de color rojo a marrón o rosa, y entonces a amarillo/blanco.
Durante las primeras 4 semanas
- No introduzca nada en la vagina.
- No realice ningún tipo de actividad sexual.
- Se puede bañar o duchar (usar la regadera).
Por favor, llame para hacer una cita de seguimiento en la clínica en 4 semanas.

What is a LEEP?
This treatment is used to treat abnormal cells in the cervix. The LEEP uses electrical energy to remove these cells. A wire loop is used to shave off this tissue. The LEEP is done while you are awake using numbing medicine. In most cases, LEEP will both diagnose and treat problems. There is not much bleeding during this treatment.
What can I expect?
- You may have discomfort for a few days. You may take ibuprofen 600mg (3 tablets) every 6 hours as needed.
- You may have vaginal discharge for up to 4 weeks. It should be like a light period. It will slowly change from red to brown or pink, then to yellow/white mucus.
For the first 4 weeks
- Do not insert anything into the vagina.
- Do not engage in any sexual activity.
- You may bathe or shower.
Please call to make a follow up clinic visit in 4 weeks.
When to Call the Doctor
- Any bleeding greater than your normal menstrual flow
- Fever above 100.4°F for 2 readings taken 4 hours apart
