6-Thioguanine (Thioguanine, Tabloid) For the Treatment of Cancer

Description


It is chemotherapy given for the treatment of cancer.

 

How It Is Given


It is taken by mouth. Each dose may consist of several pills

 

Common Side Effects

  • Reduced blood counts

 

Less Common Side Effects

  • Mouth sores
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Liver changes
  • Changes in gait

Call Your Health Care Provider if You Develop

  • Fever greater than 100.8°F.
  • Trouble walking

Special Concerns:

  • Take on an empty stomach.
  • Blood tests will be drawn to monitor blood counts and liver function.
  • ask for a written schedule of how and when to take your medicine.
