Medication Systems and Operations Residency

The University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Department of Pharmacy is a leader within the profession of pharmacy in the areas of technology assessment, automation, information technology, regulatory compliance, and business development.

 

Our Pharmacy Medication Systems and Operations Residency residency offers extensive training within a progressive and cutting-edge medication management system encompassing a tertiary care academic medical center, pediatric hospital, cancer center, and multiple outpatient clinics.

 

Program Strengths

  • Technology and patient safety: UW Hospital and Clinics has implemented the use of automation, information technology, and bar code technology at every phase of the medication use process. 
  • Clinical and administrative responsibilities as part of the management team: The resident will be an active member of the central and decentral staffing model throughout the residency. Other responsibilities include of committee participation (Drug Product Supply and Selection, Pharmacy Practice, Inpatient Pharmacy Operations) and involvement in technician training oversight.  
  • Flexibility in tailoring the program to the interests of the resident: The resident will play an integral role in developing his or her rotation schedule, and will be exposed to a variety of experiential learning opportunities offered at UW Hospital and Clinics. Additionally, elective coursework at the School of Engineering or School of Businessis optional if formal training in change or process improvement is desired.
