Dietetic Internship

Stipends, Benefits & Other Details

 

The UW Hospital and Clinics Dietetic Internship Program currently participates in Spring and Fall selection cycles. Four interns are selected in a February class and six interns are selected in an August class. During the 48-week program, interns alternate among clinical, food systems and community and Public Health rotations.

Expenses
 
Dietetic interns incur the following approximate program-related expenses:
  • Program Fees: $350 
  • Graduate Class estimated at $1,500-$2,000. Price may vary based on residency status.
  • Textbooks: Per intern discretion
  • Miscellaneous: Registration, travel, housing or eating expenses for attendance at professional meetings, such as: The Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Conference: about $150; WisPEN (Wisconsin ASPEN): about $50-$75 and various Public Health Conferences: $50 each.

Housing costs:

  • $475-725 for an efficiency
  • $700-1,150 for one bedroom
  • $800-1,800 for two bedrooms

Transportation

  • You will be able to receive a free Metro bus pass. The Madison metro bus service is reliable. Parking is not available for interns on campus. Some rotations are off-site and will require transportation outside of the Madison Metro service area. These distances are within a 45 minute drive. Cost will vary by how much the free bus service is used.

Food:

  • Interns are responsible for the cost of their own food

Health Insurance

 

Interns are responsible for securing their own health insurance. Proof of health insurance is required prior to the program start.

 

Stipend and Benefits
 
Interns receive a stipend of $100 per week for 48 weeks. This is provided as a written check every two weeks.
 
Financial Aid
 

Financial aid is not available through the program.

 

Holidays

 

Interns participate in rotations on some holidays. Each intern is provided one week of vacation, three personal days and two legal holidays (separate from legal holidays included in the one-week vacation). Interns are provided with three days of sick leave.
