Graduate Medical Education Applicants
Application to UW Hospital and Clinics Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs is handled by individual programs.
View our GME Programs section for links to more detailed information for individual programs.
Generally, applicants for appointments at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics must be graduates of medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. Students applying for first-year positions are required to register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Once accepted into an accredited GME program, applicants may apply for a J-1 Visa from UW Hospital and Clinics in order to begin training.
Exceptionally qualified graduates of foreign medical schools are eligible for appointment, provided they have been certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). For certification and examination information, contact ECFMG or the nearest United States embassy or consulate.
