Jay Deppe, who received a pancreas transplant in 2003, personalized his new Donate Life license plate as a way to thank his donor, Kevin, a young father from South Dakota who died in a construction accident.

"Kevin's family donated his organs, and by doing so forever changed my life," said Deppe.

 

"I thank Kevin every day, and this is just one more way to share my gratitude with the world."

The new Donate Life license plates were created to help promote organ, tissue and eye donation public education efforts statewide, as well as to help defray the costs of the new online donor consent registry, which will roll-out in 2010.

 

The plates cost an additional $25.00 beyond the cost of the regular vehicle registration fee; however the $25.00 fee is tax-deductible and is donated to Donate Life Wisconsin, a coalition of organ, eye and tissue professionals who work together to improve donation rates in Wisconsin.

People who wish to personalize their Donate Life license plate can do so for an additional $15.00, which goes to the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Roni Lawrence, Clinical Manager at UW Health Organ Procurement Organization, personalized her plate to promote organ donation.

"It's a fun way to share my personal donation message, and to help promote donation in a highly visible way," said Lawrence.

The plates can be ordered by mail or in person at any Wisconsin DMV Service Center.
