Long Term Care

Long Term Care Insurance is an optional benefit available to UW Hospital and Clinics employees. The Long Term Care Insurance programs may cover expenses usually not covered by group health insurance including long term home health care, assisted living, community-based care (adult day care) and nursing home care. The Department of Employee Trust Funds monitors the programs. More information about this benefit and how to apply for Long Term care may be found on ETF's website.

You may apply for this coverage at any time. Spouses and parents of employees can also apply. All applications are subject to medical underwriting. Some illnesses or pre-existing conditions will disqualify you from the plans. However, once your policy is issued, coverage will not be limited or excluded for any pre-existing conditions or illnesses.

There is no employer contribution for this benefit; you pay the full premium. Currently employees can pay automatically through a deduction from their paychecks, automatic transfer from personal bank accounts, or direct billing.

The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) publishes a free Guide to Long-Term Care to help you evaluate your needs. You may contact OCI at 1-800-236-8517 to request a copy.
