Back-Up Care Program

Regular employees working 0.5 FTE and higher may use Back-Up Care when they need temporary care for their loved ones. Example situations include:

  • School or child care center is closed for holidays, parent/teacher conferences, etc.
  • Regular caregiver is ill or taking vacation
  • Employee's child or loved one is ill and requires care at home
  • Employee's spouse or loved one is recovering from medical treatment or injury
  • Employee's parent needs temporary elder care while a permanent solution is being sought

UWHC covers the majority of costs for the Back-Up Care Advantage program. You will directly pay Bright Horizons Family Solutions for the following copay:

  • $2 copay/hour per loved one for center-based care
  • $4 copay/hour per home care (rate applies for up to 3 loved ones)
  • 1.0 FTE employees are eligible for up to 60 hours of care for FY12
  • 0.5 FTE - 0.99 FTE employees are eligible for up to 20 hours of care for FY12

If you haven't already, you are encouraged to pre-register now to most easily schedule care at the time you need it. There's no cost to pre-register, and there's no obligation to use the program. You can register over the Internet or by phone. Either way is fast and simple. To register, please visit backup.brighthorizons.com or call (877) 242-2737.
