Thomas Grist, MD

Thomas Grist, MD, is a UW Health radiologist who specializes in cardiovascular imaging. He’s also a professor and researcher at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Radiology.

Dr. Grist uses advanced imaging techniques to diagnose and treat adults and children who have heart and blood vessel disorders.

To improve patient care, Dr. Grist develops new, less invasive ways to examine the heart and blood vessels with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT). He works to create MRI images faster and with greater accuracy.

Devoted to his profession, Dr. Grist served as the Radiology Department chair for over 18 years. Under his guidance, the department became a national leader in research, education and patient care. As he continues his cutting-edge research and patient care, Dr. Grist enjoys teaching others how to use the new imaging methods.

During his free time, Dr. Grist enjoys skiing, cycling, running, water sports and the beautiful driftless region of Wisconsin.
