Shawna Wheeler is an Advanced Practice Provider in the Department of Neurology. She practices at the UW Health Headache Clinic in collaboration with neurologists who specialize in treatment of migraine and cluster headaches, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, Trigeminal Neuralgia, atypical facial pain and post-concussion syndrome. She specifically enjoys addressing musculoskeletal problems that can contribute to headache disorders and embraces many approaches to treatment, including medication management, non-pharmacologic treatments (physical therapy, supplements, pain psychology, integrative medicine) and procedures. She performs trigger point injections, occipital nerve blocks and Botox injections.
She received her Physician Assistant degree at UW-Madison. Following graduation, she worked at CRC Health Group in Washington, helping patients recover from opiate dependence. She began her career in chronic pain with advanced pain management and established her career in the UW Neurology Department with a position in chronic pain and headache management. She gradually transitioned entirely to headache management in 2011. She has given lectures on chronic pain and headache management to students at the University of Wisconsin Physician Assistant program, insurance companies and nursing staff.

About Physician Assistants (PA-Cs)
