About

Shardha Srinivasan, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatric and fetal cardiologist who serves as director of fetal cardiology services at UW Health. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Srinivasan diagnoses and treats heart defects in children from before birth (fetal) throughout adolescence and into early adulthood. Heart defects that are present at birth are known as congenital heart defects (CHD) and often require life-long monitoring or surgery.

Children born with a single ventricle heart defect will require follow up care throughout their life. As the physician lead of the Fontan Follow-up Clinic, Dr. Srinivasan works with colleagues from other specialties to provide comprehensive care, education and transitional services as they from pediatric care to adult.

With a commitment to providing family-centered care, Dr. Srinivasan listens to understand families’ concerns and goals. She then educates them about the condition and treatment options, so they can effectively participate in health care decisions. When providing fetal care, Dr. Srinivasan collaborates with other specialists to ensure the best care for both mother and baby.

In addition to a special interest in echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fetal diagnosis and management of children with congenital heart disease, Dr. Srinivasan works with her radiology colleagues to provide advanced imaging through 3D echoes for children with CHD. These three-dimensional views of a child’s heart give the surgeons a clear view and allow for accurate surgical planning.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Srinivasan is actively involved in research focused on using imaging to evaluate congenital heart disease.

Outside of work, Dr. Srinivasan is a gardening enthusiast. She enjoys collecting unique plants, including the redbud tree, whose small heart-shaped leaves remind her of her patients.

Watching my patients grow into healthy young adults is the greatest part of my job.
