Philip N. Zimmermann, MD

About

Philip Zimmermann, MD, is an internal medicine doctor at UW Health and an assistant clinical professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Medicine. He treats illnesses and chronic medical conditions with a focus on prevention to help people stay well. He’s particularly interested in helping overweight patients. Their weight loss can improve related conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Dr. Zimmermann’s interest in treating obesity includes creating a patient-centered weight loss plan with intermittent fasting and therapeutic carbohydrate restrictions. He prefers to use dietary and lifestyle changes instead of medications to help his patients reach their goals. When meeting a new patient, Dr. Zimmermann puts himself in their position and provides the same care he would want for himself or a family member. Dr. Zimmermann sees himself as a teammate for his patients to help them navigate their care journey. Every day he works to advance his ability to care for people in a better way and to provide them with more health and healing.

In his free time, Dr. Zimmermann enjoys running, biking, and playing the guitar and cello.

Listening helps me understand what my patients value. I try to slow down in clinic as much as I can to let people share what's truly important to them.
