About

Patrick Dowling, MD, is a UW Health pulmonary and critical care medicine doctor and a clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He cares for patients with chronic (long-term) lung conditions.

Dr. Dowling diagnoses and treats patients with a wide range of respiratory (breathing) diseases. In the clinic setting, he sees patients with conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD (blocked airways), emphysema (breathlessness), pulmonary fibrosis (lung scarring) and obstructive sleep apnea (sleep-related breathing problems). He also provides in-hospital care for critically ill patients with various types of pneumonia or respiratory failure.

Dedicated to helping people navigate lifelong conditions, Dr. Dowling looks forward to building lasting relationships with his patients. He empowers patients to take control of their health by listening to their concerns, discussing their options and working with them to make informed decisions. He strives to help his patients get back to living their best lives.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Dowling studies quality performance and data to improve patient care.

Outside of work, Dr. Dowling enjoys gardening, hiking and spending time with his family.

I strive to improve the quality of life for my patients, both in the moment and for the future.
