Faculty, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public HealthDr. Sweitzer is the director of the Heart Failure Program. She is a clinician-scientist whose research focuses on the physiology of heart failure with preserved systolic function, with a particular focus on the role of vascular stiffening in impairing ventricular relaxation and cardiac performance. She is also interested in abnormalities of the cardiovascular system associated with aging, non-invasive assessment of age-related pathology, and targeted interventions aimed at slowing the vascular stiffening seen in age, hypertension, diabetes and obesity, in an effort to prevent heart failure. In addition, as Director of the Heart Failure Program she is involved in several multicenter trials of therapy or interventions in heart failure.
