Nalini Sehgal, MD

About

Nalini Sehgal, MD, is a pain medicine specialist at UW Health. Dr. Sehgal cares for people with many types of persistent pain, including knee, shoulder, back, neck and pelvic pain. She also treats headaches, nerve pain, fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome and pain stemming from cancer and diabetes.

Dr. Sehgal’s special interests include new treatments for chronic nerve pain, including implantable and noninvasive treatments, and innovative ways to diagnose and treat pain with image-guided techniques.

Witnessing a lack of high-quality medical care as she grew up in India, she was determined to become a skilled physician and help improve people’s lives.

As a leader in her field, Dr. Sehgal serves as a professor and vice chair of the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She is also the principal investigator for research studies examining new medicines for knee osteoarthritis and diabetic neuropathy.

Outside of her practice, Dr. Sehgal relaxes with yard work and calls herself an amateur gardener. She also enjoys travelling, visiting national parks and listening to NPR podcasts.

My care philosophy is to help patients manage their pain so they can improve function and live a better quality of life. It’s important to learn their expectations so we can collaborate and create a treatment plan they can follow successfully.
