About

Melanie Witte, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner who cares for patients with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Melanie helps patients manage a variety of conditions related to high blood sugar. These include steroid-induced hyperglycemia (when steroid medications cause high blood sugar levels in people with pre-existing diabetes) and stress-induced hyperglycemia (when surgery, infection, trauma or medicine causes high blood sugar).

Understanding that diabetes can impact every aspect of a person’s life, Melanie takes the time to get to know her patients and their families. She works with them to learn about their level of knowledge about their condition, what resources they have at home, and what their lifestyle preferences are so she can create a personalized care plan that they can implement once they leave the hospital.

It is essential to include the person and their family in planning and decision-making about their care.
