About

Laura Zakowski, MD, is an internal medicine doctor at UW Health. Dr. Zakowski provides diagnostic and primary care services to patients over 18 years of age including treatment of acute and chronic illnesses, gynecological care, urgent care and minor surgery.

Dr. Zakowski has received numerous humanitarian awards for her exceptional compassion in patient care and has been named to the Best Doctors in America list multiple times. She is a professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Medicine, where she also serves as vice chair for education. Her research interests include investigating innovative approaches to teaching medical students communication skills, evidence-based medicine and behavioral modification skills.

In her free time, Dr. Zakowski enjoys all things outdoors, including hiking, biking, snowshoeing and skiing. She also enjoys volunteering in her rural community.

I build partnerships with my patients, so we can decide together about medical care that is based on research and guidelines, but also takes personal perspectives into consideration.
