Dr. Barbara Higgins joined the Section of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Medicine as a Clinical Assistant Professor in 2008. She received her M.D. degree at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis Medical School and her internship/residency at the New England Medical School/Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts and University of Wisconsin, Madison. Dr. Higgins has served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Illinois, Rockford where she was awarded Outstanding Community Clinical Preceptor of the year 2005-2006. She has worked in private practice, and then became a member of the Swedish-American Hospital group and later the Program Director from 2006-2008.
Dr. Higgins has done committee work on quality initiatives, compensation and medical ethics. She is currently a member of the Hospital Medicine Clinical Care Committee and the University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation Audit Committee.
