Change One Thing: A Group for Diabetes Self-Care

Clinical psychologist Heidi Beckman discusses the Change One Thing groupA twelve-session group to assist patients who have diabetes with the following goals:

  1. Enhancing motivation to effectively manage diabetes
  2. Removing barriers that interfere with effective management of the condition
  3. Increasing sense of confidence for engaging in positive health behaviors and self-care

Participants are asked to set a specific goal for improving diabetes management, and group topics are designed to help participants make forward movement toward that goal. New groups are being formed on a regular basis, and individuals may join after an initial evaluation appointment.

The 1-½ hour sessions meet once per week on a day and time that is agreed upon by the group members.
