Research shows that patients who attend group meetings regularly tend to lose more weight. The
UW Health Bariatric Program Team strongly encourages patients who have had bariatric surgery to attend the support group meetings.
Details
The UW Health Bariatric Program Support Group is a mix of patients who have had gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding or revisional surgeries as well as those waiting for bariatric surgery. The average group meeting attendance is 35 to 40 people.
Approach
This open forum offers a safe environment for those considering bariatric surgery to learn more about what to expect with life after bariatric surgery as well as offer mutual support to those who have had surgery. Our focus is on the improved quality-of-life rather than the actual number on the scale. Family, friends, old and new patients, and those who had surgery at our program or just moved into the area are encouraged to attend this supportive and free support group.
Online Support
UW Health bariatric surgeons moderate a
bariatric surgery discussion board accessed by patients from all over the country. All those who are considering or have had bariatric surgery are welcome.
