Inpatient Pain Consultation
In addition to its outpatient pain program, UW Health's pain management specialists offer help with pain to inpatients in a variety of ways.
Inpatient Pain Management Consultation
The Inpatient Pain Management Consult Service is staffed by advanced practice nurses and pharmacists to address inpatient pain management issues.
Our staff assesses and manages patients with acute, persistent or cancer pain by working with case managers and primary treatment teams to address pain problems, coordinate secondary consultations and promote continuity of care.
Anesthesiology Acute Pain Service
Pain is a frequent part of surgery, and effective pain control improves a person’s sense of well-being, speeds recovery and reduces complications.
In conjunction with UW Health's anesthesiology section, our pain management staff assists in minimizing acute pain due to surgery, trauma or other medical conditions. Consultation for epidural and spinal analgesia or regional nerve blocks is available.
Palliative care treats the whole person, aiming to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of you and your family. Palliative care has three goals to ensure patients have the best possible quality of life:
- Reducing symptoms caused by both disease and its therapy
- Supporting patients and families at times of illness, transition and loss
- Helping family members provide support to patients and each other
Team members will assess your physical needs and the treatment of symptoms including pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, nausea and loss of appetite. Staff work closely with area hospices to provide an emphasis on quality of life and continuity of care.
