Shorewood Hills 4 Corners Summer Camp
Though the approximately 45 kids at the Shorewood Hills 4 Corner Summer Camp were only between 4 and 6 years old, their industry belied their years when they decided to raise money for the American Family Children's Hospital. With the help of their camp counselors, the kids put together a few hundred flyers announcing their August 1 bake sale and lemonade stand and distributed the flyers throughout their Shorewood Hills neighborhoods.
In preparation for the big day, they, along with the help of camp counselors and parent volunteers, baked treats, decorated donation boxes and made posters. On the day of the event, they poured lemonade, held up their posters for passersby and helped run the lemonade stand.
In addition to purchasing lemonade and treats, patrons could make cards for sick children in the hospital or buy Lemon Aid Stand t-shirts, designed specifically for the event (pictured). More than 130 shirt sales contributed to the total revenue.
The campers' efforts came to fruition on August 2 when they toured the American Family Children's Hospital and dropped off the money they raised - $2,155 in all.
During the tour one of the kids was heard saying, “Now I won’t be so afraid to come to the doctor because I know what the Children’s Hospital looks like.”
