Breast Care Services at UW Hospital and Clinics

The UW Health Breast Center at UW Hospital and Clinics is committed to the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast disease and cancer through compassionate and coordinated care. The care offered by UW Health physicians and nurses in our Breast Center is frequently rated among the nation's best.

You will have access to medical experts from both UW Hospital and Clinics and the UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC). The Breast Center, being a part of the UWCCC, offers you leading-edge cancer diagnosis and treatment. The designation of Comprehensive Cancer Center is one that is selectively bestowed only by the National Cancer Institute, and the UWCCC is the only one in Wisconsin and one of just a few in the United States.

The wide range of services offered at the Breast Center includes diagnostic and screening mammograms with rapidly performed biopsies, breast exams and risk assessment with a multi-disciplinary High Risk Breast clinic, second opinion consultations and a comprehensive survivorship program. The Breast Center Nurse practitioner in the UW Breast Center has extensive experience in breast health and is a Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN).

Our clinic is certified by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), recognizing its exemplary care and service to patients.

The accreditation is only granted to centers which voluntarily commit to providing the highest level of breast care and which have undergone a rigorous evaluation process and performance review. Centers must demonstrate compliance with NAPBC standards, which include proficiency in center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement.

According to the NAPBC, center accreditation ensures patients will have access to:

  • Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
  • Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
  • Quality breast care close to home
