Get On Board With Child Safety
The "Get On Board With Child Safety" campaign is a national child injury prevention initiative to educate parents, caregivers and consumers nationwide about the changes they can make to prevent unintentional injuries in and around the home and on the road. The American Family Children's Hospital has long been a proponent of childhood injury prevention, and its status as a Get On Board member hospital continues its pledge to spread the news of injury prevention in the community.
Parents Might Not Know...
In a 2006 survey of parents with children 3 years old or younger, Get on Board found:
- One in three parents don't know that kids can drown in as little as two inches of water
- Fewer than one in four parents know that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury deaths for toddlers between 1 and 4 years of age
- Fewer than half of parents know falls are the leading cause of unintentional injuries for children ages 1 to 4 years
- More than half of parents underestimate how long their kids should be kept in booster seats and only one in three parents know their children should wait until they are 13 years old to ride in the front seat of a car
