Our Naturopathic Providers

Naturopathic Doctors are trained at four-year, post-graduate, residential naturopathic medical programs accredited by a federally recognized board.

The training consists of comprehensive study of the conventional medical sciences, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, immunology, clinical and physical diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis, cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology, etc.

The naturopathic education is unique in that naturopathic doctors complete extensive academic and clinical education in the use of natural medicines, the training and practice based on the principles of naturopathic medicine. Upon graduation, naturopathic doctors must pass the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Exam (NPLEX) to become board certified.

Currently, the state of Wisconsin does not regulate the practice of naturopathic medicine. However, the naturopathic doctors working at the UW Integrative Medicine Clinic are all graduates of accredited naturopathic medical schools, board certified, and maintain current licensing in one of the 16 states that grant licensure to naturopathic physicians. Naturopathic physicians in Wisconsin are seeking to establish licensure of the profession in the legislature at this time.
