Michael D. Buhl serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of UW Hospital and Clinics.
Michael most recently worked for Stanford Hospital and Clinics, a 600-bed academic medical center in Palo Alto California where he served as interim Chief Financial Officer. Previously, he was the Chief Financial Officer for Mayo Clinic Scottsdale and also served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Mayo Franciscan Skemp Healthcare in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
While at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Michael's responsibilities included directing the annual operating and capital budget processes with an operating budget of $1.4-billion and a $400-million capital budget. He directed business plan development for physician recruitment, programs and service lines as well as capital expenditures.
Michael began his career in Minnesota as a staff accountant for Price Waterhouse & Co., served as senior Medicare auditor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota, then a controller (Acting CFO) at Mount Sinai Hospital and for 16 years was Vice President of Finance for Fairview Health System, a major teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Minnesota.
His diverse background and experience at academic medical centers will assist UW Hospital and Clinics in its 2010-2014 Strategic Planning process with UW Health preparing our long-term financing plans and ensuring operational and strategic initiatives.
